One Of My Favorite Seattle Galleries / One Of My Favorite Seattle Artists

I recently attended a beautiful art opening at one of my favorite galleries in Seattle,
Winston Wachter, and was blown away by the genius of artist Casey Curran, and his mad skills around working movement into intricate metalwork that are based on animal skeletons, avian plumage, and the natural world. The juxtaposition works, and is raw and ethereal. The coolest aspect of his work,is that the viewers are able to turn a crank, and watch his work transform, by either opening flowers, flapping feathers, or twisting skeletons. Curran takes aspects of 19th century theorists Emile Durkheim and Ernst Haeckel as well as his own experience with his childhood observations of the changing landscape around his home in Maple Valley, Washington, where streams and rivers are abundant around him. Many artists are able to combine art and nature, but what sets people apart, in my view, is taste and a level of sophistication, that many people think they have figured out, but maybe haven't. Curran has a grasp on the sophisticated raw blend of nature and art that is hard to achieve, and he does it in a fresh, and innovative way.

You really must visit Winston Wachter, as this exhibition won't be up forever.

There he is, the artist himself...
 A smaller piece above.
Turning the crank on this piece makes the intricate metal snake skeleton twist
 back and forth. Pure genius...

This piece was the mother of the group, and was enormous. Every different size of feather you could imagine, pinned with care. Keep your eye on this guy, he is going somewhere, fast...
Have a great weekend!

Thanks to Winston Wachter for generously allowing me to take photo's.
