Piddling in Palms Springs...

Palm Springs is having another moment...There have been many surges of youth and culture that have hit this beautiful area in it's relatively short history. One being the "Frank Sinatra" era in the late 50's and early 60's, that kind of turned into "the epicenter of old", and then came the "Less than Zero, Robert Downing Jr." cocaine kids from L.A.,in the 80's moment, and another moment now, with Coachella bringing the cool kids from L.A. (and further), to see some amazing bands play in a virtual dust bowl. The pressure is on to see who will win their attention...

I had not been for a while, and never really explored the area much, so this time
went for a gorgeous hike,(that I still feel dehydrated from!).
Driving through the desert, there is an area where the native people settled, called Palm Canyon, and it literally looks like you are coming upon a mirage, a little circle of paradise, in the middle of the parched, and dusty earth all around.

And then...Behold...A flippin' waterfall right there, under a bunch of enormous boulders, that the Native American's used to slide down, from 20 feet above, plunging into the pool of water. This is why they call it, "Palm Springs", because there is a huge source of water under this town, literally "a spring". I never would have fully understood this, considering Palm Springs (for the most part) feels, and looks like a dusty clay pot, with pockets of un-natural looking green areas, and golf courses, if I had not talked to this AMAZING Native American park ranger with more knowledge of the "important stuff", than anyone I have ever come in contact with...

Caves, with water dripping down the interior surface of the boulders...

Ok, now on to the superficial stuff...Shopping!

There were really only a couple of stores that drew my attention.Which I actually liked, because it kind of forced me to stay by the pool...Blvd, House 849, and Trina Turk Home, were all very nice...

House 849

House 849

Do not have any idea what this is,
But it looked cool and it had horns....HORNS...I kinda like NOT knowing...
                                                                      (House 849)

The Parker was definitely my favorite of all of the hotels in the area...The rooms that I were shown were a tad small, but Jonathan Adler did an insane job with the design. What I loved the most was the stringy drapes...I need those...If any of you have been to The Parker and know where to find those drapes...Please do tell!!:)

The drapes above are gorgeous...

Of course I HAD to check out "The Ace", and had a wonderful time with the super talented,
(Interior Designer to watch), super cute, super authentic, and really nice guy, Grant Gibson...

I could have hung out all day with this guy...(More on Grant, and his work, soon...)

Ricotta, banana, walnut, date, something else and something else, delicious pancake...

I have so many images I have been stockpiling to do a post on wall hangings, that are so back from the 70's it is not even funny...I have fond memories of HUGE looped wall hangings my grandmother had hanging all over her walls....Oh how I wish I had those now...

Doorknob LOVE...

I know...The way overdone blog post, of the foot in front of the pool shot...I thought about putting them on a toilet, or the hood of the killer dodge charger that was our rental car, but alas, the day grew long and I grew tired...and lazy...And here are my feet...sore, hot, bloated, and thirsty...

Video of the Week....

This blows me away...This is the first 35mm film EVER,
taken by a camera mounted on the front of a San Francisco cable car.
I wonder if any of these people are your relatives?
I LOVE the boys in their knickers trying to outrun the cable car,
women in their enormous hats, and the little troublemakers hanging on to the back of the cars.
The soundtrack is of one of my favorite french bands, (Air).
Amazing...

Lunch in Seattle...

When you come to visit me here in Seattle,
we are definitely hitting one of my favorite spots for lunch in Seattle.
Oddfellows...
They serve fresh, delicious, homespun food,
(and I am not talking casseroles, and fried chicken).
Homemade soups, great salads, and AMAZING pastries...
(That I have been eating WAY too much of lately!)

The wait is sometimes long to get one of these suckers...

The vibe is very cozy with all of the civil-war era photo's lining the walls, along with antique knick-knacks.

These two kids were so adorable...

YUM....

Simple Intricacies...

This bedroom has all the makings of a cozy night's sleep.
I am guessing the sheets are fine linens that have been freshly
laundered, and may have been hung out in the sun to dry.
It smell's like fresh baked orange and date brioche,
and I think one might wake up in the morning with the sun shining
through an open window, birds singing, and a grandmotherly type
coming in with a spot of tea, humming a sweet and comforting melody...

Art for Charlie

I am happy to present the work of  3 year old, Walker Greenman, who, along with his family, is trying to raise funds by selling his hand-painted cards on E
tsy to help pay for his baby brother's rising hospital bills.

Fellow blogger, Sarah Greenman, from
La Maison Boheme is the proud mamma of these two lovies, and seems to have boundless positive energy around the entire

experience...We are sending our love to you and your family, Sarah.

About Baby Charlie:
Charlie was born on August 4, 2010. Approximately 12 hours after he was born, he began having seizures. An MRI revealed he had suffered two strokes affecting the right side of his brain. Charlie's stroke may or may not be due to another condition he has called Craniosynostosis. This is when two skull plates fuse prematurely in the womb. It is going to take years to fully comprehend what the stroke will mean for Charlie's motor skills, cognitive and language development. Only time will tell how his brain will recover from the trauma. In the meantime, Charlie has the love of his family and us - a strong network friends to help him grow and heal.

Go here to purchase cards, or here to donate anything your little big heart desires...

Grow stronger everyday baby Charlie..Our hearts go out to you...
