Looking Inside : A Personal Wall of Art

Erin Wasson is the ultimate "Cool Girl"...
She is creative and artsy, she is not a follower,
and has her very own sense of style....
This wall shows me that she wants to wake up everyday and be
reminded of her travels, her passions, and things that are
meaningful to HER, and not the masses...

Holiday High

This is one of the most beautifully decorated holiday havens I have seen this year...I LOVE the crisp feel, and for me the real show is the windows...Any home that lets in all of this natural light, is a winner to me...The cozy feel is a major bonus...Who would not want to come home for Christmas, to this lovely setting?

The Art of the FREEZE

We are now in the midst of a thick, cold, winter air here in Seattle. It feels very cleansing.
The fog hovers, and the ferry boat horns call out to one another, with long, deep bellows...

Art after Turkey

After the overdose of Tryptophan from the turkey,
I would love to sleep for days...In my dreams...
I will sleep for days, and wake up to the entire house having been decorated for Christmas, and the floors scrubbed top to bottom...In my dreams...

Edward Dulac is one of my favorite illustrators of all time....The colors he used,
the sensuality, the moodiness...Absolute perfection....

Have a great weekend!!

Living Gratefully...

To be honest, only in the last 5 years, or so, have I truly understood what being grateful means, and how, I believe, it is the key to our happiness. Of course, I thought I understood, and I would make myself believe that I was grateful, but I still had the case of "the wants" that I could not shake...Most of the wants were all things that I thought would make me happy. Having this, having that, wanting more...Thinking that the little fantasy life that I was creating in my head, was the only thing that would make me happy. I finally learned, that my life will never be that fantasy. When I was able to let that go, it was a HUGE relief, because I could finally see all the little, wonderful things around me. I could finally see, what I was not seeing. I thought happiness was so much harder than it is...It's not...It is a choice to be grateful, or not, and GRATEFULNESS is the key to HAPPINESS. It is as simple as that. I have found it is the littlest of things that we should be focusing on...The light of the moon, the taste of a freshly buttered pumpkin-maple biscuit, a child's eyes Christmas morning, our health, our loved ones health, etc.

I started this blog in April, and I cannot believe how wonderful the whole experience has been...
For all of you who follow this blog...THANK YOU....I know you don't have to, and sometimes I still can't believe I have any followers at all....Another thing I am truly grateful for...

Happy Thanksgiving....

This photo is of one of the many struggling American Farmer's during the great depression...
Amazing and rare Photo's Via - America in color- from 1939-1943
These images, by photographers of the Farm Security Administration/Office of War Information, are some of the only color photographs taken of the effects of the Depression on America’s rural and small town populations. The photographs are the property of the Library of Congress and were included in a 2006 exhibit Bound for Glory: America in Color.

If You Are a Lover of the Sea...

Water, Sea, Ocean, The Big Blue, whatever you wanna call it...To some, it is what we long to be closer to...It calls to us, like a child, moaning with grief. This short film, made by a great photographer/surfer is beautiful, moody, and beyond inspiring...

I LOOOOve a Parade...

Growing up, the most exciting part of Thanksgiving for me was not the food,
but the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
The pure joy and excitement of sitting through all the balloons and waiting for
"The Real" Santa Claus was thrilling. The mall Santa's were the elves, of course,
(even though they always seemed a tad creepy)!
Seeing it in N.Y.C. with my kid, was one of the most memorable experiences of my life.

Have a great weekend!!

When in L.A. - Eat Here

If you are in L.A. , you must pop by Cecconi's for lunch...
Super L.A., in a good way, and the best chicken, apple, pancetta, salad I have ever had...
The marble and brass bar was beautiful..

The only thing distracting me from the fantastic
people watching, (very Oliver Stoney,
and elite power players of Hollywood-ish),
were these doofuses who looked like they were
about to go for it, right at the bar...

Gorgeous, private setting...Glam, California luxe I would call it...
This salad was AHHH-MAZING....
The outdoor patio only added to the charm.
I will be dreaming of you Cecconi's...

I hope all of you too, are able to do the things you love, until the very end...

Have an inspiring weekend...

Not Just any Home in Paris...

Here is the thing..this velvety gold sofa ( by B& B Italia),
is making me cry...
The high ceilings give off a vibe of granduer,
and yet the place feels so liveable, and relaxed...Great combo...
I have always thought drapery was much too formal
for my lifestyle, well, this makes me think again...
The lamp is so beautiful, simple and elegant...
I LOVE how the owners left the old world charm
 in the bedroom..
The old world glamour of Paris and the modern
mix of furnishings is to die for...

Interior Design Love : Laura Day Living

I have loved Laura Day's style for a while now. She has a fresh approach, a keen eye, and my favorite part...makes everything look, and feel, inviting, and comfortable....That is a hard combo to achieve with success. There are things that I can find, that I like, in almost all designers portfolio's, but some designers can make it look a tad too catalog-ish, which of course can be comfortable, but is it original? Other designers can make it all seem a bit too precious and over the top, but is that inviting and comfortable? Laura seems to strike a pretty perfect balance.

See more, on her GORGEOUS, super informative, and brilliant website, HERE.

Waiting for Winter...

Here in Seattle, we have pretty mild winters, but what some people don't realize is that every couple of years, we get hit hard with snow and ice. Because we are not used to it, the entire city can shut down. Well,  rumor has it that this year is going to be a doozie.  I am taking a trip to the garage this weekend, to climb over our heap of summer things, (we have not put away yet),  to get to those sleds...

Herringbone Floors, Part Deux

Here is the thing, herringbone floors float my boat like you would not believe. I am kinda drooling as I type.
Wood, White, and Gold, scream sophistication to me....
Oh, and here's the other thing, I am going antiquing tomorrow to find some old gold candlesticks, (that Mr. Crumpet dropped off in '62) to have as my centerpiece for Thanksgiving. Of course the bones of an old building in Paris don't hurt either.
Drooling I tell you...
